Summer Programs off to Great Start!

Our summer programs kicked off on June 14 and what an exciting couple weeks it has been! Here’s a quick recap of the first two weeks, which included celebrating National Boys & Girls Club Week from June 21-25!

Week 1 – Superhero Week

Our elementary Club members at both the Johnsonville and Theisen sites enjoyed participating in some positive self-talk strategies with Miss Aly, our mental health specialist, among other great social/emotional activities. Our 4th and 5th graders were super excited to start learning the fundamentals of golf through the First Tee program at Whispering Springs Golf Club. Professional golfers in the making! We also have a number of elementary Club members signed up to learn how to play tennis throughout the summer, which the kids are absolutely loving! Some other activities they have really enjoyed include making and eating Hulk dirt cake and completing a superheroes training course!

On June 16, Cousins Subs in partnership with the Milwaukee Bucks, delivered over 200 subs and cookies to both of our summer program as part of their commitment to donate more than 3,000 meals to Boys & Girls Clubs throughout Wisconsin. We are so thankful for this partnership!

Since June is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, our amazing teen members and staff chose to have a purple-themed day on the first Friday of the summer programs. To wrap up this epic week, some of our teens and staff also hosted “BGC Trivia” at the Juneteenth celebration event that took place at Buttermilk Creek Park on Saturday, June 22. We are so proud of how caring and supportive these kids are. They truly enjoy giving back to their community!

Week 2 – National Boys & Girls Club Week

To celebrate this momentous week, our program staff worked hard to plan amazing daily activities around the overarching theme of “Whatever It Takes to Build Great Futures!”

First, we would like to send a great big THANK YOU to the Fond du Lac Police Department along with Kiwanis of Fabulous Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac Noon Kiwanis and Lakeside Evening Kiwanis for partnering to bring the Kiwanis Cops N Kids Reading Program to help us kick off #BGCWeek! The kids LOVED being read to by our awesome police officers and were SO excited that they were each gifted their very own copy of “Those Shoes” to take home!

Highlights throughout the rest of the week included our Teen mentors spending quality time doing fun activities with our elementary youth at the Theisen Club site, demonstrating how we support the health and well-being of our youth by getting creative with some calming jars, organizing a “Mindfulness, Resiliency and Beyond” program with our partners at Agnesian HealthCare which gave our teens the opportunity to learn the importance of art therapy and how we can use art to communicate how we feel.

We also began the summer edition of our SMART Girls program (aka Girls Group) with Rhianna from ASTOP, which always has an incredibly positive impact on our Club members.

And finally, we wrapped up the week by watching “Raya and the Last Dragon” on the big screen at Theisen, an awesome day of our kids at the Theisen site playing kickball with a group of our local firefighters, and a couple officers from the police department playing dodgeball with our teens and teen staff at the Johnsonville site! What a blast!!!
