The Boys & Girls Club of Fond du Lac held its 10th annual SPELL for Great Futures team spelling bee on October 11, 2023. Business and community leaders were randomly teamed up with Club members to compete in this year’s Wizard of Oz themed event. Presented by Society Insurance and coupled with other numerous sponsorships from local businesses and individuals, the event raised over $33,000 to directly support the Club’s academic programs.
Friends and family of participants attended the event and were treated to a special introduction highlighting the 24 teams competing in the spelling bee, comprised of a total of 72 participants. Tying for third place in the spelling bee were two teams consisting of Tomessa Marley (Kiwanis of Fabulous Fond du Lac), Bella (Geode) Stroup and Emalyn Demos; and Adam Hopper (Hopper’s Silk Screening & All Star Trophy), La’Riyah Varnado and Kevin Mahoney. Coming in second place was Paul Reetz (Integrity Saw & Tool), Shaylah Buechel and Merary Duarte. And placing first as this year’s Championship team was Laura Barnes (Society Insurance), Lorelai Johnson and Jacquelina Sanchez.
