Our summer programs kicked off safely and seamlessly this past Monday, June 22 at both our Johnsonville site and partner site at The Arc Fond du Lac. Kids and staff had a great first week… check out our Facebook photo album to see all the smiling faces! We are excited and looking forward to reconnecting with our kids over the next seven weeks. Here’s a quick recap of our first week:
Teen Center Club members have been up to quite a bit so far this summer. Their first week was mainly spent getting to know their groups and group leaders while participating in some on-the-spot activities. In addition to getting accustomed to our new program structure, the teens have participated in art clubs, virtual escape rooms, Go Green activities, and team-building games. We have also been getting outside more by using the Gaga Ball pit, going on walks with our Walking Club, and adventures to and from the park. After just one week, we’re really excited to do more activities we have planned with our groups. A few thoughts from some of our teens:
“My favorite part about Club this summer has been being able to do a majority of programs offered even with being in a specific group. I have also enjoyed getting closer to the people that will be in my group and making friends with them.” – Emma
“I like being able to go the park a lot and doing other activities with my group outside.” – Keeyan
“I have liked being able to see people I haven’t seen in awhile. Having fewer people in each area has been nice too.” – Gabe
Johnsonville Elementary Program
We kicked off our elementary summer program with a variety of activities from Booking & Cooking, art, community service, math, and literacy. Our first week’s theme was camping and every grade made s’mores! Some of the kids’ favorite moments were “Fun Friday” when 2nd grade had a silly string fight and glow stick dance party. Here’s what a couple of our kiddos had to say:
“My favorite part is having fun with my teachers and my classmates.” – 2nd grader
“You get to do a lot of fun things like go to the park, brain breaks, art and so much more.” – 5th grader
The Arc Fond du Lac Elementary Program
Our elementary summer program at The Arc Fond du Lac is starting off with a bang! Members are so happy to see their friends and peers. It’s nice to have some normalcy back in our kids’ lives. The 4th graders are especially having fun learning about their “bubble gum brains”! We love to see our kids learning and growing! Club members have also been excited for our themed activities, such as camping. In addition, our 5th grade Club members had a tent building race (see photo above!), everyone made s’mores, we went on scavenger hunts and did a lot of crafts! These are just a few of the fun activities we have done during the first week, and we can’t wait to show our kids what’s in store for the rest of the summer… stay tuned!
