November 2021 Face of Great Futures

Yoselyn is 11 years old and a 5th grader at Chegwin Elementary School. She lives in Fond du Lac with her mom, stepdad, 12 year old brother Juan (a Teen Center Club member), 8 year old sister Yaretzi who also attends Chegwin, 3 year old sister Bella, and a goldfish named “Goldy”. Yoselyn added that she spends time with her dad at his house on the weekends. Her family recently visited Wisconsin Dells and they all had a lot of fun together there!

Yoselyn shared that she is at the Boys & Girls Club pretty much every day. She first started attending the Chegwin Clubhouse when she was in 3rd grade and has also attended the summer program at both the Johnsonville and Theisen sites. Yoselyn stated that her favorite thing about Club is participating in “Fun Friday” activities, and she also loves reading the books that are available at the Boys & Girls Club because “they are always so interesting!” She added that she enjoys the teachers at Club because they are “fun, funny, and try their very best to make all the kids happy every day.”

Without hesitation, Yoselyn shared that when she grows up, she would like to become a nurse, because she recently had a check-up at the doctor and was initially very scared about the visit. She wants to be a good nurse who will help kids (and maybe even adults!) to feel more comfortable at the doctor and help them feel better if they are afraid. Yoselyn stated that her favorite subjects in school are Writing and Math, and her least favorite subject is Science. When she is not at school or the Boys & Girls Club, Yoselyn enjoys teaching kids to draw in Sunday school at her church. She loves art!

Some fun facts about Yoselyn: her favorite color is peach, she loves to eat alfredo with shrimp, broccoli, and garlic bread, and would really like to travel to New York City because “a lot of dreams come true for people there”. If she was given three wishes, they would be: 1) to get a bunny, 2) to see her uncle who passed away, and 3) to have her very own bedroom! When asked if she has any advice for younger Club members, Yoselyn stated “I would tell them to follow their dreams and don’t ever give up.” Such great advice, Yoselyn!
