SPELL for Great Futures raises over $24K for Academic Programs

The Boys & Girls Club of Fond du Lac held its 8th annual SPELL for Great Futures team spelling bee on October 20. Business and community leaders were randomly teamed up with Club members to compete in this fun and exciting Disney’s Jungle Cruise themed event. Presented by Society Insurance and coupled with other numerous sponsorships from local businesses and individuals, the event raised over $24,000 to directly support the Club’s academic programs.

Friends and family of participants attended the event and were treated to a special introduction highlighting the 24 teams competing in the spelling bee, comprised of a total of 72 participants. Placing third in the spelling bee was Kelly Koenigs (Excel), Taylor Hill and Amy Tamayo-Cruz. Coming in second place was Eric Pantoja (SSM Health and BGC Alumni), Damien Ferguson and Mackenzie Vogelsberg. And placing first as this year’s Championship team was Adam Stephens (Fond du Lac Fire Department), Janiah Dorsey and Steven Volz-Siegmann.

Stephens stated, “Firefighters are fortunate to work as part of a team to achieve the best possible results. I am so happy we were able to pull off the big win! Huge thank you to Steven and Janiah for their continuing effort to be the great spellers they are!”
