January 2024 Face of Great Futures

Nicholas is 10 years old and is currently a 4th grader at Evans Elementary School. He is a new Club member this school year and enjoys attending because he gets to spend time in the gym to play basketball, which is his favorite sport (he always works on dribbling first, then sometimes shooting the ball). Nicholas believes that kids come to the Boys & Girls Club because “it’s fun to make friends here!

Nicholas lives in Fond du Lac with his mom, older sister, younger brother, and younger sister. He added that he also has an older brother in college at UWM, and he’s really proud to have such a great family. Nicholas loves to spend his time playing basketball, playing outside, riding his dirt bike, and sometimes playing video games. He describes himself as someone who is intelligent, good at sports, and kind. When asked what he likes most about himself, Nicholas stated, “I care for other people and I have a good smile.”

Nicholas proudly holds up a lunch he “packed with care” after helping Torch Club and Keystone Club members assemble over 30 bagged lunches for our local warming shelter. What a great kid!

Nicholas stated that he is good at basketball and football. His favorite subject in school is math while his least favorite is reading. When asked what he would like to be when he grows up, Nicholas took some time to think about his answer and thoughtfully stated, “maybe a dentist or a professional basketball player.”

Nicholas shared that he really loves when he gets to visit his grandma and grandpa in Chicago, and also enjoys when he gets to go to Applebee’s with his dad. If he could go anywhere in the world right now, Nicholas would go to Milwaukee to visit his older brother. Nicholas’ favorite colors are red and blue and his favorite food is pizza or chicken wings.

When asked to share something important that he’s learned in life so far, Nicholas said “Never commit crimes, like littering. And also look both ways when you cross the street!” Nicholas’ advice for younger kids is to “always listen to your teacher, and be kind to everyone.” If Nicholas had three wishes, he would 1) visit Pluto, 2) watch an NBA game in person (Golden State Warriors, LA Lakers or Chicago Bulls), and 3) be a monkey so he could pick things up with his feet, climb trees and eat bananas all day!

FUN FACT: Nicholas has also been selected as a Youth of the Month for our Johnsonville Boys & Girls Club site, which makes him eligible to earn an Elementary Youth of the Year award this year. Stay tuned!
