February 2021 Face of Great Futures

Ramiro is an 8th grader at Theisen Middle School. He has been a Club member since he was 8 years old. Ramiro stated that his favorite thing about the Boys & Girls Club is that “it’s just a great place for everyone – it’s easy to make new friends here and also get help with your academics, which is VERY important.” He added that he’s not sure what he wants to do with his future yet, BUT he knows he should start thinking about it because he will be in high school next year and his mom said those four years go by really fast! Ramiro shared that his main goal is to get into college, and if that happens, he will be the first in his family to receive a college education. After a quick pause and some thought, he also stated that he might want to be a teacher or a firefighter someday, because “teaching the next generation or saving lives would be helpful, and I like to help people.”

Ramiro lives in Fond du Lac with his parents and his 10 year old twin sisters who are also Club members. He stated that although his sisters can be a little annoying at times, he’s always looking out for them and giving them advice when they need it. Ramiro added that he’s pretty good with technology and sometimes has to help his mom when she has trouble with her cell phone or other electronic devices. When asked what he enjoys doing for fun, Ramiro said he loves to build and has a ton of Legos at home. He added that he likes to spend time looking up ciphers and codes to create video games.

Whenever Ramiro is faced with any type of conflict or issue that needs to be solved, he always keeps an open mind and tries to see things from every perspective. He stated that if he could pass on advice to our younger Club members, he would tell them to “be nice to your teachers, volunteer your time, be a hero without a mask, make sure you do all your homework and take school seriously, because your future is important!”

FUN FACT: Ramiro was named one of the Boys & Girls Club’s Elementary Youth of the Year in 2018 and plans to apply for Youth of the Year again when he’s in high school. Future leader in the making!
