May is an exciting month for so many reasons: the end of the school year, sunnier days, and the anticipation of SUMMERTIME FUN! The best part of this month, especially for our Club staff, is watching the kids have a blast participating in all the great activities they have worked so hard to plan throughout the school year. Seeing the joy and excitement in our Club members’ eyes is exactly why we do what we do!
Some of our favorite activities from this month included completion and celebration of STRIDE Academy levels, writing our final letters to our foster grandparent pen pals, making edible play-doh, Minute to Win It games, putting together Dixie cup flowers from our library kits, making Mother’s Day art to give to all the special “Moms”, having fun with the big parachute during our Get Up & Go Program, and playing a variety of awesome water games outside!
We have also been celebrating National Mental Health Month, a time set aside to recognize individuals with behavioral and mental health conditions as well as acknowledge that we are here to support them. Our program sites have been incorporating different resources and conversations to help educate our youth and to normalize the discussions. Youth have participated in programs focused on building friendships, coping skills, emotions, and bullying prevention. Take a peek at some of our team sharing why they feel mental health is important. We all agree that supporting the mental health needs of our Boys & Girls Club family is one of our top priorities!
Our teens have also been enjoying programming and relaxing at the Club as they anxiously await the end of the school year. Even with the nice weather they still come to Club and get their homework done, which tells us we are definitely doing something right! We are so glad they choose to be here with us every day. We wish everyone a wonderful last few days of school, and look forward to seeing many of the same smiling faces (and a bunch of new ones!) when we start our summer programs on June 14!
