March 2023 Face of Great Futures
Mireya is 10 years old and a 4th grader at Rosenow Elementary School. She has been a part of the Boys & Girls Club family since this past September when we opened our brand new afterschool site at Roberts. She believes that kids come to Club to hang out with friends and learn a little more. Her favorite thing about Club is participating in art programs. Mireya’s favorite thing subject in school is also art, while her least favorite is math. She shared that when she grows up, she would like to be either a Kindergarten teacher or 1st grade teacher.
When Mireya is not at school or Club, she loves spending time with her family and doing art, specifically drawing eyes and people. She is happiest when she is spending time with her family and playing games likes Hide & Seek or games on a phone or iPad. Mireya added that she lives with her mom, 14 year old sister, 11 year old sister, 8 year old brother, 4 year old sister, and baby sister who was just born in January.
Mireya shared that the best thing that’s happened to her so far is getting to the top of the monkey bars with her friends and going to a fun place in Appleton with her mom and friend! Her favorite places to be are school because of her friends, and home because of her comfy bed and the fact that she can see the sunset from her bedroom window. Mireya stated that she is good at art and reading. Her favorite books to read are chapter books and fun books. Her advice for younger kids at Club is to “always be trustworthy.” The most important thing Mireya has learned so far in life is that there’s a lot of math involved.
Mireya’s favorite food is pasta with red sauce, and her favorite colors are purple, blue and black (in that order!). If she could go anywhere in the world, she would travel to the Dead Sea between Israel and Jordan. Mireya stated that if she had three wishes, they would be to 1) go to the Dead Sea, 2) learn one new thing every day, and 3) always be true to who she is. We have loved getting to know Mireya and appreciate how helpful she has been been throughout her first year as a Boys & Girls Club member!
