March 2022 Face of Great Futures

Ben is 11 years old and currently a 5th grader at Pier Elementary School. He became a Club member in 2019 when he was in 2nd grade and enjoys attending because “it’s a safe place to hang out with friends, and it’s really fun!” Ben stated that he likes participating in Project Learn at Club and he’s really good at reading, art (drawing/painting), and writing. Ben describes himself as smart, a good friend, and a huge fan of cars, racing, and music from the ’90s and early 2000s. FUN FACT: If you visit the Fond du Lac Public Library right now, you can find Ben’s awesome drawing of a Beastie Boys album cover on display in the Langdon Divers Gallery!

Ben shared that aside from reading, painting, and drawing in his spare time, he also enjoys playing video games, baseball, camping, and building model cars. The best thing he’s ever done was camp at the Nascar races at Road America last summer – what a blast! Ben added that his aunt gave him a large Nascar diecast autographed by two of his favorite drivers, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Ross Chastain. His love for cars and racing has influenced his dream to become an automotive technician for Nascar someday.

Ben is enjoying his final year at Pier before entering middle school, and he loves that he finally has Social Studies as a subject in school. He is very interested in history and when it comes to reading material, his first choice is always a historical fiction novel. Ben’s favorite book is “Refugee” by Alan Gratz. He gave a quick summary of the book, then added that if he could go anywhere in the world, he would visit Germany because there is so much WWII history there. He would also like to visit Great Britain because “there are just so many things to do!” So far, Ben’s favorite place he’s ever visited is the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge, TN.

When asked to share something important that he’s learned in life thus far, Ben stated “Your future is not written in stone and could be subject to change.” He followed his statement by explaining that sometimes plans change, and you just have to go with the flow and make the best of it. Ben lives in Fond du Lac with his mom, dad, younger sister, and their golden retriever Gus. He stated that if he had three wishes, he would 1) own a 1965 Lamborghini Miura Roadster, 2) have a very large house for himself with a garage that could fit a million cars, and 3) own every book he wants in the world. Ben’s favorite food is pizza, his favorite color is blue, and his advice for younger Club kids is to “be nice to your friends, and everyone!”

We’re thrilled to be a part of Ben’s journey, and can’t wait to watch him continue to grow through middle school, high school and beyond. We know he will achieve GREAT things in his life! For more information about our youth programs and how to sign up, click HERE!
