June 2023 Face of Great Futures

Julia is 9 years old and getting ready to enter 4th grade at Waters Elementary School this fall. She is an only child and primarily lives in Fond du Lac with her mom, but spends time living with her dad in Oshkosh as well. Julia loves animals; she has a 2 or 3 year old Husky dog named “Sweet Pea” at her dad’s house, and also has a rescue dog named “Gus” (turning 15 years old in July) along with an 8 week old rescue kitten named “Churro” at her mom’s house. Julia has been a Boys & Girls Club member since she was in 1st grade, attending throughout both the school year and the summer. She believes that kids come to Club because “sometimes kids’ parents have to work, and if they work at home, they might need the house to be quiet!”

Julia stated that her favorite thing about Club is that she gets to hang out with her friends and learn a lot of fun new things. When she is not at Club, Julia loves to create art, play with her kitten, talk and play with friends, and just hang out with her mom and dad. She stated that her favorite subject in school is Math, and her least favorite subjects are Writing and Reading, because “there are a lot of steps to follow and it just makes me tired.” Julia is proud of herself when she accomplishes something, when she helps people and it makes them happy, and when she makes new friends. She also shared that she is good at art and helping people with math.

Julia stated that when she grows up, she would like to become an artist/art teacher or a dance teacher. She added that there is a good chance she will probably change her mind about these career choices in the future! Julia shared that the best thing that has ever happened to her is when she went to a magic show and won money because her dad bought her a raffle ticket! Her favorite place to visit is the Children’s Museum in both Fond du Lac and Appleton. If she could go anywhere in the world, Julia stated that she would go to Florida where her friend Kinsley lives and she would bring Kinsley’s entire family all the way back to Wisconsin so they could live closer to each other.

Some fun facts about Julia: her favorite color is gold, she loves to eat gummies and all the other candy that she couldn’t eat when she had an expander in her mouth, and her favorite BGC staff are Miss Kari, Miss Madison, Miss Lucy, Mr. Alex and Miss Aimee. If she was given three wishes, they would be: 1) to have infinity wishes, 2) to bring all the people I love who have died back to life, and 3) to have all the people I love stay alive forever! When asked if she has any advice for younger Club members, Julia stated “Believe in yourself, and keep your friends close but your enemies closer – because eventually they will also become your friend and everyone will be happy.” We love having Julia as a Club member…what a great kiddo!
