Mateo is 10 years old and currently a 4th grader at Chegwin Elementary School. He has been a Boy & Girls Club member for about three years, and his favorite thing about Club is “Fun Fridays” because the activities are just more fun, especially in the gym. Mateo is an only child and lives in Fond du Lac with his mom and dad. He loves to spend his time playing soccer and riding his bike.

When asked what he likes most about himself, Mateo stated “My legs, because they help me walk, run and play soccer.” He stated that he is happiest when he spends time with his family. Mateo’s favorite subject in school is science and his least favorite is literacy. He shared that while he’s not sure exactly what he would like to do when he grows up, he thinks a construction job would be cool because his dad also works in construction. 

Mateo’s favorite place to visit is the Lego store in Chicago; he has only been there once but it was awesome! If he could go anywhere in the world, Mateo would visit Spain because “I’ve just always wanted to go there!” Mateo’s favorite food is a dish called menudo, which consists of cow stomach cut into small pieces with noodles in a bowl like soup. He added that he enjoys eating it with hot sauce because he loves spicy food!

Mateo’s favorite color is black because “I don’t really like bright colors.” His advice for younger kids is to ”be a leader, not a follower; especially if someone is doing something wrong. Do the right thing!” When asked to share something important that he’s learned in life so far, Mateo said “Listen to people you trust.” He stated that if he had three wishes, he would 1) go back to Mexico because he was born there, 2) go to college, and 3) get better at math.
