The Boys & Girls Club of Fond du Lac held its 6th annual SPELL for Great Futures team spelling bee on October 16, 2019. Business and community leaders were randomly teamed up with Club members to compete in this fun and exciting, The Greatest Showman themed event. Presented by Society Insurance and coupled with other numerous sponsorships from local businesses, the event raised a record-breaking $26,800 to directly support the Club’s academic programs.

Over 150 people attended the event and were treated to a special introduction highlighting the 24 teams competing in the spelling bee, comprised of a total of 72 participants. Placing third in the spelling bee was Officer Jesse Pimental (Fond du Lac Police Department), Mysterious Robinson and Liz Ibarra. Coming in second place was Kirk Midthun (McNeilus Steel), Keeyan Pantojas and Shelby Narten.  And placing first was Paul Simon (Wabash National), Kamon Parker-Hersey and Carley Schmitz.

Simon stated, “Spell for the Futures was an amazing experience. The Boys & Girls club did an exceptional job with incorporating children of all ages and making this event a fun and exciting learning experience. Kamon and Carley are two extremely bright students and it was an honor to be their sponsor and teammate.”

Following the competition, attendees were invited to a reception in the Club’s Teen Center featuring balloon animals created on demand by Sunshine the Clown, themed cupcakes made by Annie’s Fountain City Café and 1,500 boneless wings courtesy of Buffalo Wild Wings.
