Club Members Pay It Forward
At our Boys & Girls Club, ‘RESPONSIBILITY’ is a key organizational value, and it drives our strong commitment to giving back to the community that supports us. This commitment starts with our board of directors and leadership team and extends to the youth we serve daily.
Our Club members take immense pride in using the resources and opportunities available through our programs to pay it forward. It’s inspiring to witness their enthusiasm each time a new opportunity to contribute arises. Here are just a few ways our incredible youth have given back to our community over the past couple months:
For Veterans Day, Club members made yellow ribbons that were given out to veterans at a special brunch at the American Legion and Fives. They also spent time creating thoughtful cards and posters, and writing letters to some of our local veterans. Some were even delivered by hand to Edenbrook, Salute the Troops and Harbor Haven, along with cozy blankets too! The kids’ hope was to bring smiles to veterans’ faces and have the ability to say “thank you” in person for serving our country.
Parkside Club members made Thanksgiving placemats for the residents at St. Francis Home, and Chegwin Club members assembled care packages for the local warming shelter with the hope that the packages would warm the hearts who of those who need them. They love this time of year and being able to make someone’s holiday a little brighter!
Keystone and Torch Club members held parfait, hot chocolate and cookie sale fundraisers throughout December. All proceeds raised through their efforts will be donated back to local community organizations!
Teen Club members painted handmade bowls for the Empty Bowls fundraiser in early December. The event, hosted by Envision Greater Fond du Lac, is a community-driven effort to fight hunger. The three-fold purpose of this event is to promote an awareness of hunger in our community and world; create an awareness of art education and its impact on civil and social responsibility; and provide an opportunity for the community to come together to raise money for local food pantries and shelters.
Club sites were assigned a themed tree for the Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac’s “Trees Around the World”. Club members created handmade ornaments for their tree and then spent time at the Children’s Museum decorating it. All the trees turned out amazing…we love being a part of this event every year!
Several of our Club members, staff and board members had a great time giving back to our community by ringing bells for the Salvation Army at a few different locations throughout the holiday season. The kids always have so much fun singing Christmas Carols, putting smiles on peoples’ faces, and helping raise more money for those in need who benefit from the wonderful services that the Salvation Army provides all year round!
