April 2023 Face of Great Futures

Nimrat is 8 years old and a 3rd grader at Pier Elementary School. She has been a Boys & Girls Club member for a couple years. She believes that kids come to Club because “sometimes your mom and dad are at work, but also just to have fun and get outside. Plus, the Club feeds you and we get to do fun stuff!” Her favorite thing about Club is having the opportunity to do crafts and create art. Nimrat’s favorite subject in school is reading “because books take you on adventures and teach you new things”, while her least favorite subject is math. She added that she knows math is really important but she just doesn’t enjoy it. Nimrat shared that when she grows up, she would like to be a veterinarian.

When Nimrat is not at school or Club, she loves spending time doing art stuff, specifically drawings. Nimrat loves to be creative and stated “the fun part about art is if you make a mistake, you can just fix it! And if you don’t already have something you think could be useful in life, you can always create it.” Nimrat shared that she is from India and lives in Fond du Lac with her mom, dad, and one sister who is a just a year older than her. She added that her grandma and grandpa also live with her, and her grandma is currently visiting India. Nimrat is really hoping to be able to add another family member soon, a dog!

Nimrat shared that the best thing that’s happened to her so far was when her aunt came all the way from India to visit, and also when she was able to go to India to see her cousin get married. Nimrat has also traveled to both New York and California, and has been able to see amazing landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, Niagara Falls, the White House, and the Golden Gate Bridge. If she could go anywhere in the world, Nimrat would visit the Great Wall of China because she wants to see how long it really is!

Nimrat’s favorite color is any shade of blue and her favorite food is a delicious dessert recipe from India known as kheer, which is made with milk, rice, and sugar. Nimrat stated that if she had three wishes, they would be 1) to be invisible “so I can get away with things like borrowing my sister’s clothes”, 2) to go to the Great Wall of China and make it even longer, and 3) to fly, “just so I could fly over the Great Wall of China!”

Nimrat’s advice for younger kids at Club is to “make new friends because it’s a good thing.” She added that making new friends is another thing she likes about coming to the Boys & Girls Club. The most important thing Nimrat has learned so far in life is that “some things in life are really hard, but you just keep working to get through it. Take breaks, eat something, and then try again.” Great advice!

FUN FACT: Nimrat participated in our annual Spell for Great Futures team spelling bee event for the first time this past fall. She was on a team with Pier Elementary’s former principal, Mr. Colwin! She said that even though her team didn’t win, she was still very happy and proud of herself for participating because she had so much fun!
