Summer Programs off to Epic Start!

Our summer programs kicked off on June 13 and we are ecstatic to announce that we’re almost back to our pre-COVID enrollment numbers; there are currently 475 youth signed up for the summer and we’re seeing 260 of those kids walk through our doors and actively participate in programs EVERY SINGLE DAY! Simply amazing! Here’s a quick recap of the first 2.5 weeks, as we are in the middle of celebrating National Boys & Girls Club Week and wanted to share some of the EPIC things we’ve been up to thus far. That’s right…this is just a glimpse at how much fun we’re having this summer:

Week 1 Theme – Welcome to the Jungle

We started Day 1 with a jam-packed Teen Center so everyone got together for a “first day selfie” with Miss Halley, which was super cool to see! Our 2nd and 3rd graders took a trip to the fire department, while other Club members had a blast learning how to golf at First Tee.

On top of all that excitement, we also offer tennis camp as well as a Little Brewers program for our Club members who love the game of baseball!

Week 2 Theme – Let Your Colors Show

The second week was all about colors! Club members absolutely loved creating Fruit Loop necklaces, color-changing chameleons, making Jell-O colored grape treats, doing string paintings and completing other super colorful art projects.

Our Club kids at Theisen had great weather for a swimming trip to the waterpark and their Torch Club also held a successful Freeze Pop sale!

Week 3 – National Boys & Girls Club Week

We look forward to this momentous week every year, and our program staff works hard to plan a variety of super awesome daily activities that fully encompass what the Boys & Girls Club is all about – experiencing new things and having FUN!!!

First, what an amazing way to kick off BGC Week… with a Club members vs. City of Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue and Fond du Lac Police Department dodgeball game! Who do YOU think won?!

Other highlights from this week so far include the opportunity to participate in soccer camp at the Fond du Lac Family YMCA, getting creative on #BGCSpiritDay by making shrinky dink pins of our iconic Boys & Girls Club logo, and magnet rocks with our Club Values: Respect, Responsibility, Belonging, Safety and Growth. Staff also wore a Club shirt or the color blue.

A great way for our teens to celebrate during BGC Week (and all year round!) is by getting actively involved in our Club Climate program, which is all about making our Boys & Girls Club a positive to be! This summer, the program is focused on working as a team and becoming better teammates. For example, our members participated in an amazing race where they completed different challenges as a team and supported one another through those challenges. They all were AMAZING teammates and the winning team ended up in 1st place, completing all challenges in just 20 minutes and 44 seconds!

Additionally, the teens who participate in our “Be Great: Graduate” program just took a trip to Six Flags Great America to celebrate a successful school year.

And a group of our elementary Club youth had the opportunity to venture out to EAA and Menominee Park Zoo. There are so many fantastic experiences being provided to our youth this summer and we could not be more excited for them!
