Program Highlights – Summer, Summer, Summertiiime

We are almost three quarters of the way through our summer program, and what a fun-filled seven weeks we’ve had! Serving just under 500 youth at two sites takes a lot of careful planning and coordination, and we want to give kudos to our incredible program staff who plan and execute all the amazing activities our Club members have the opportunity to experience in such a short period of time. Here are some highlights from the last few weeks:

Johnsonville & Theisen Elementary Programs

We just LOVE our community partners! Thank you to Jimmy John’s for donating a bunch of subs and chips to both of our summer sites earlier this month…and the City of Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue and Fond du Lac Police Department for participating in our Jell-O eating competition at Theisen! Both the PD and Fire/Rescue also helped make Boys & Girls Club Week super special by coming to play dodgeball with us, and we wanted to thank them for being so awesome. So we hand-delivered “thank you” cards and they invited us to stay and visit for a while. So grateful for all they do!

A bunch of our Club members had the opportunity to spend a beautiful day at Mt. Olympus in Wisconsin Dells. Best field trip EVER! And with all the hot weather we’ve been having, we’ve been spending time swimming at our local public pools and even planning fun water games that take place in the green space right outside our Boys & Girls Club.

Although swimming and water games are pretty popular among our Club members, they also take a lot of pride in giving back to our community. This month, we spent time helping to spruce up our community gardens at Hamilton Park. We also made some dog toys and kennel decorations to help adoptable pets get adopted and delivered them to the Fond du Lac Humane Society.

To top off a great month for our elementary kiddos, they had the opportunity to participate in ”Read with a Dock Spider Day”. The players read stories, signed autographs, played catch, and even had time for a fun game of scatterball. Thank you to the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders and United Way Fond du Lac for bringing this great opportunity to our Boys & Girls Club members!

Teen Center

We absolutely LOVE having Mr. Levi come to teach our teens how to play guitar during the summer. He’s just the BEST, and in case you didn’t already know this fun fact – Mr. Levi is a former Club member and enjoys giving back by sharing his time and talents. This is his 12th summer offering free guitar lessons to our youth!

In addition to guitar lessons being more popular than ever this year, our teens have been enjoying their ability to pick and choose which activities they want to participate in. Throughout the day, they have the opportunity to jump in on art activities, relationship-building programs, fitness club, swimming, Keystone Club (community service activities!), and various field trip destinations. A group of our Teens even ventured over to TNT Adventure Obstacle Course to participate in a series of team-building exercises. Thank you to the TNT crew for being awesome hosts!

Rounding out an exciting July at the Club, some of our teens along with a group of our elementary youth attended a Dock Spiders game together (see article feature photo). It was a perfect day to watch some baseball, and our team came out on top. Great win!
