February 2025 Face of Great Futures

Sophia is 14 years old and currently an 8th grader at Sabish Middle School. She has been a Club member for six years, and loves attending because of programs like Keystone Club and Art Club. She also has a great connection with a few staff members – Miss Sweetness, Mr. Elton and Miss Lexi. Sophia has been selected as our Face of Great Futures this month because “she is a team leader, always helping out around the Club, and consistently participates in leadership initiatives with our Keystone Club, which is all about community service, volunteering and giving back”, stated Miss Lexi. Let’s get to know Sophia!

Sophia and another Club member, Soraya, recently volunteered at Celebrate CommUNITY where they had the opportunity to share their Club experiences!

Why do you think kids come to Club? It is a safe place for kids to come and have fun.

Who do you live with? My mom, dad, younger sister, and older brother. We also have three cats named Patches, Mittens, and Gravy; two dogs named Chase and Rubble, and a turtle named Brian!

How do you like to spend your free time? I love coming to Club and volunteering, and also spending time with my friend Jeannie.

What are you good at? Talking and communicating with others, reading, writing, math, and making others feel comfortable and safe.

What do you like most about yourself? My kindness, ability to make friends, and reading ability.

What makes you feel happy or proud? Spending time with others makes me happy, and doing good in school makes me feel proud.

What’s your favorite thing to learn in school? Least favorite? Math is my favorite, and social studies is my least favorite.

What do you want to be when you grow up? Something in pediatrics.

Best thing that’s ever happened to you? Getting my cats! They can’t talk so I can tell them anything – they are my comfort animals.

Favorite place you’ve ever been? The Bahamas and Mexico.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go? Greece, because my great grandpa is from there.

Favorite food? Gyros! I grew up eating them because I’m Greek.

Favorite color? Baby pink and lavender, which was my grandma’s favorite color.

Most important thing you have learned so far in life? Don’t let other people’s comments affect you, and just be yourself.

Advice for younger Club kids? Treat others how you want to be treated.

If you had 3 wishes, what would they be? 1) Major in pediatrics, 2) travel the world, and 3) help others.

We love having Sophia as part of our Boys & Girls Club family and have no doubt she will grow up to do GREAT things!
