August 2023 Face of Great Futures

Lydia is 10 years old and starting 5th grade at St. Mary’s Springs Academy. She has been a part of the Boys & Girls Club family for the past two summers and believes that kids come to Club because “parents need a safe place for their kids to get taken care of when they work.” Lydia stated that her favorite things about Club are having free time to talk and play in the afternoons, and also sitting with her friends while enjoying a meal (she especially enjoys the strawberry PB & J’s at Club!).

Lydia lives with her mom, dad, 8 year old sister, and their dog “Izzy”. She likes to spend time riding her bike, playing softball, playing catch with her dad, relaxing on her tablet after a long day, having friends over, and golfing for fun. FUN FACT: Lydia just joined Cheer and is even more excited to get started since receiving her uniform and pom poms a few days ago!

Lydia enjoys spending time with a good pal at Club!

Lydia stated that she is good at softball, has been playing the sport for about five years, and is proud of herself because she recently started pitching. She stated, “I’ve always wanted to pitch and I just find joy in knowing how to do it.” When asked what she likes most about herself, Lydia said that she is not shy, and probably got that gene from her dad, because “we go out there and talk to anyone we see.”

Lydia’s favorite subjects in school are math and science. She shared that when she grows up, she would like to be a teacher, therapist, tutor or veterinarian. Lydia stated that the best thing that’s ever happened to her is taking a trip to Disney World. She also loved visiting SeaWorld! If Lydia could go anywhere in the world, she would go to China because “there’s cool stuff like pandas and a lot of good restaurants. I really like trying new foods!”

Lydia’s favorite food is her dad’s beef stroganoff, and her favorite color is lime green because “it’s just so bright and vibrant!” The most important thing Lydia has learned so far in life is to take deep breaths before saying stuff. “Just take time to breathe and think about it,” she said. Her advice for younger kids at Club is to “try to make every second and moment fun and amazing because you don’t live forever.” Lydia stated that if she had three wishes, they would be 1) to have her old dog back, because “she was the best dog ever!”, 2) to have the world be in peace, and 3) to achieve her life goals.
