Planned Giving
in Support of the Boys & Girls Club of Fond du Lac
Leave a Legacy of Great Futures
A planned gift offers you the peace of mind of knowing that important, and sometimes difficult life decisions have been made to care for you, your loved ones, and the causes you hold dear. In what can be a difficult time for your family, making an estate plan and assigning planned gifts spares them from having to make those decisions on your behalf.
If you have a passion for the children of the Fond du Lac area, consider making a planned gift to the Boys & Girls Club, and help ensure our programs and opportunities are here for local kids for many years to come.
How Will the Boys & Girls Club Use Your Gift?
You can direct your planned gift to support a specific Club program or activity you're passionate about. Or, the Club may put an unrestricted gift to work where it's needed most, including:
- Scholarships for low-income youth
- Purchasing and replacing vital Club equipment and technology
- Supporting the cost of Club programs
- Developing new programs based on community need
- Sustaining the daily meal program during afterschool hours
- Investing in the Club's long-term sustainability
Why the Boys & Girls Club Matters
The need in our community is real, and it's growing:
of Club youth live in poverty, and nearly 1 in 2 students (47%) in the Fond du Lac School District do as well. Our community has a long-term need for afterschool and summer learning programs for youth in need.
children are served every day in our afterschool programs. The Club is a respected organization with a reputation for success, which is why low-income and working families continue to rely on us for support.
These young people need more support from caring adults, and the Club provides exactly that through dedicated staff and volunteers every day.
Ways to Make a Planned Gift
Thank you for your interest in making a planned gift to the Boys & Girls Club of Fond du Lac! The goal of planned giving is to help you plan your estate and charitable giving in a way that benefits you, your family, and the causes you care about. There are several ways to make a planned gift to the Club while enjoying both tax and income benefits.
Explore the options below to find the one that best matches your goals.
Donor-Advised Funds
A DAF allows donors to make a charitable contribution into a dedicated giving account, receive an immediate tax deduction in the year they contribute, and then recommend grants to qualified charities over time. Donors can fund the account with cash or appreciated assets such as stock: avoiding capital gains tax while deducting the full fair market value. Many donors "bunch" several years of intended giving into one high-income year to maximize their deduction.
Works Well For: Individuals who hold appreciated stock or other assets, those anticipating an unusually high-income year (a bonus, business sale, or liquidity event), business owners, and donors who already give through an existing DAF.
Qualified Charitable Distributions
For donors aged 70½ or older, a QCD allows them to transfer up to $105,000 per year directly from their Traditional IRA to a qualified charity tax-free. If they are 73 or older, these distributions help satisfy their Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) without adding to their taxable income. (Contact your advisor/accountant for more info)
Works Well For: Individuals aged 70+ who hold traditional IRAs.
Donation of Appreciated Stock
When donors gift appreciated stock held for over a year directly to a 501(c)(3), they avoid capital gains tax and can deduct the full fair market value (consult your tax advisor as there is rules around this as to how much you can deduct annually). This makes a much larger impact than if they sold the stock themselves, paid the capital gains tax, and donated the remaining cash.
Works Well For: Business owners and/or long-term investors holding individual stocks, mutual funds or exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
Corporate/Company Match Gifts
Many people work for companies that offer matching gift programs, and many don’t know they exist. When making a gift to a charity, some businesses will match that gift from the corporation or a corresponding Foundation. Encouraging donors to ask their companies about match programs can double the impact of many donations.
Works Well For: All individual donors, but especially those who work for medium-to-large corporate employers.
Charitable Requests
These are gifts that list BGCFDL as a beneficiary in:
- Estate Plans
- IRA’s, and/or
- Trust Funds
